Just a few of our volunteers

ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE:

Bay Area German Shepherd Dog Rescue has been serving Northern California since 2013. It is a non-profit supported by a dedicated team of volunteers with many years of experience owning, training, evaluating and living with German Shepherds.

The dogs in our program come from shelters or from owners that can no longer care for their dog.  We select dogs primarily based on their adaptability, that they can become loving members in their forever homes, The dogs in our program can range from puppies, young, mature, to seniors, including hospice dogs who need some tender loving care at the last stage of their lives.

The Bay Area German Shepherd Dog Rescue team rescues German Shepherd Dogs, including Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherds, Belgian Shepherds, Anatolians, GSD blends, with some occasional imposters!

While we are a small rescue, our love and compassion for the dogs is mighty. We are proud of the thousands of dogs we have saved. But mostly we pride on the very low returns (<1%) after adoption. Several adopters are repeat adopters. We do our best to keep in contact with our adopters for the rest of the dogs’ life.

WHAT WE DO:

Each dog that comes into our program is carefully evaluated, vetted, and placed into a foster home. Foster care is a very important stage to prepare them for adoption; we get to learn more about them and acclimate them for a new life.

When you apply to adopt one of our dogs, you will go through an adoption process where we learn more about you, your experience and your lifestyle. We are committed to finding the perfect match for our dogs and our adopters. We want our dogs to find their forever home and never face abandonment again.

YOU CAN HELP!

There are many ways to help and every single one of them is important.

Fosters allow us to learn more about a dog prior to placing the dog in an appropriate home. Fostering a dog saves lives and allows another shelter or displaced dog to get a second chance.

Donors provide the much needed funding for the Rescue to thrive. ALL donations go directly to caring for the dogs; we have no paid personnel. Every donation, large or small, allows us to continue to save these wonderful dogs.

Volunteers keep us moving forward.  We are always looking for like-minded people that want to help. There are many ways to volunteer and we do our best to find our volunteers ‘jobs’ that are rewarding and empowering.
